A Better Way to Hire Engineers: How Luna AI Financial Screens for Talent and Humanity

At Luna AI Financial, we believe that great engineering is about more than just algorithms—it’s about creativity, ownership, and how you solve real problems when no one’s handing you a perfect prompt.

That's why we’ve rethought the traditional technical hiring process.

Why Traditional Hiring Is Broken

The usual flow goes like this: Intro chat → Leetcode-style challenges → Maybe a take-home → On-site grilling.

But here’s the problem: some of the most brilliant engineers we’ve met—people who’ve built startups, shipped products, and solved massive technical problems—don’t always thrive under that format. Timed puzzles and trick questions aren’t a great proxy for real-world skills, and they can add unnecessary stress and anxiety.

We wanted to build a better process. One that helps both the candidate and the company.

Our Process at a Glance

  1. Initial Call (Just Talk) This is a relaxed conversation. We want to hear about your background, what lights you up about tech, what you've built, and where you want to grow. You’ll also get a chance to ask about us—our roadmap, team dynamics, values, and anything else that matters to you.

  2. Technical Screening, but Reimagined Instead of throwing you into a whiteboard puzzle or timed test, we do something different:

We invite you to build anything you want.

Yes, anything. A side project you’ve been meaning to start. A tool you’ve wanted to use. A redesign of something you’ve seen and thought “I could do better.”

The only guideline: make it meaningful to you.

You’ll have a few hours to build something (or extend something you’ve already started) while walking us through your thought process, your architecture, and your decisions. We’ll pair with you on extending or tweaking a part of it live, so we can get a feel for how you work, how you communicate, and how you approach challenges.

Why We Do It This Way

  • You keep the code. It’s your project, your IP, your portfolio. We don’t keep any of it. You can showcase it on GitHub, a resume, or anywhere else.

  • We learn how you think. Real-world coding is messy. It's rarely about getting "the right answer" under a timer. We want to see how you explore ideas, make trade-offs, and solve open-ended problems.

  • It’s stress-free (or at least, stress-less). You’re in control. You’re building something meaningful, not performing tricks. That creates a much more honest and helpful signal for both sides.

  • It helps us spot people who shine in the real world. Some of the most impactful engineers don’t have traditional CS backgrounds—or they just freeze up on tests. This process gives everyone a better shot.

A Process Built on Mutual Respect

We’re not looking for perfect answers—we’re looking for people we’d want to build the future with. And that means people who are creative, curious, and collaborative.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to chat.

📫 Email us at admin@softwurx.com —we’re always open to connecting with builders who care deeply about their craft.

Let’s create a better financial future, and a better hiring experience, together.
